WOTO Event Recap

Our event today went really well! A few of us hooked up in Balboa Park for a little singing next to the fountain. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place! The only issue was that there was a sax player about 200 feet away, so it was dueling instruments at times. A couple of times he was even in the same key! :)

Afterward, we headed to downtown San Diego, in the southeast part of the East Village to feed the homeless. We had plenty of food. We were all laughing because it was almost a “loaves & fishes” kind of thing. We kept handing out food and it seemed like we were never getting rid of it!

We met some great people. People that are not all that different than any of us. It was awesome to sit and share our stories and lives with each other. It is amazing to me how many seem to have a real relationship with God.

At our last stop at 16th and National Ave. we met a great group of people. One woman, Brenda, shared her story about trying to find her son. Fortunately a local church is looking to make that happen. It was really cool to pray with her and absorb the very real presence of God in that place.

It was an honor to see our kids serving with a passionate love for God and for these people. They so easily and naturally gave hugs to people that many would never even get close to. I am so blessed to be able to see God’s hand extend through our kids.

This was a great day to worship God!!

What Does Worshipping On The Outside Look Like? #fb #woto

Recently, I have started to consider in what ways that WOTO (Worship on the Outside) can take worship outside our normal Sunday routine. Don’t get me wrong. The corporate worship of God that takes place in the local church is very important, but I think we have become complacent and not willing to move beyond that once-a-week experience.

Obviously worship goes way beyond music, Sunday morning, etc… There is so much more to worshipping God in a Romans 12:1 kind of way. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship”. This means that our act of worship is lived out in our everyday lives. We are living sacrifices!

Whether it be praising God through music, feeding the homeless, raising our kids, working at our jobs, etc…—our whole lives should be lived to glorify God!

Please pray with me for God to birth in us new, fresh and creative ways to step beyond our cozy and comfortable box that we call “worship” and begin to live it. What ways can you glorify and honor God today?
